National Gallery of Victoria + Bank of Melbourne
It was hard not to notice the Bank of Melbourne ATM's adorned with classic blue Breton stripes, a celebration of the bank’s partnership with NGV’s exhibition, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.
NGV’s Head of Corporate Partnerships, Romina Calabro discusses the development and success of their partnership with Bank of Melbourne.
Hi Romina! Thanks for your time. A few very important questions to start:
Tea or Coffee? Coffee
Summer or winter? Summer
And because we’re talking about Gaultier… tutu with biker jacket or conical bra? They are both great! Personally I like the tutu with biker jacket.
Bank of Melbourne has been one of NGV’s major partners for the last few years. From your perspective what makes the partnership so successful?
True collaboration is imperative to any successful partnership. We meet regularly with the Bank of Melbourne team to plan our projects, to monitor the progress of our partnership and to explore how we can strengthen our collaboration in new and exciting ways.
As a result, we have been able to develop unique initiatives to celebrate Bank of Melbourne’s support for The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk – such as the Breton-striped ATMs.
Bank of Melbourne has even developed a Jean Paul Gaultier-inspired tram wrap to promote the exhibition. Jean Paul Gaultier was so delighted with the tram that he posted a photo of it on Instagram.
What are the benefits to NGV of Bank of Melbourne’s support?
We are extremely grateful to Bank of Melbourne for supporting the NGV. Our partnership with them has supported us to deliver inspiring exhibitions which provide important opportunities for members of the community to access extraordinary art experiences.
In addition to The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, Bank of Melbourne also supported our summer 2013/2014 major contemporary exhibition Melbourne Now, which attracted an unprecedented 750,000 visitors and showcased the work of over 400 local artists and creative practitioners.
The NGV could not deliver its exhibitions without the assistance of our supporters, and we look forward to working with Bank of Melbourne on future projects.
And finally, what are your top three tips for arts organisations seeking partners or sponsors?
1. Do your research.
2. Do all that you can to really understand what a partner is seeking to achieve from a collaboration with your organisation.
3. Develop unique partnerships so they are truly rewarding for all involved parties.
The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk is at NGV until 8 February 2015.
