Bangarra Dance Theatre on appealing to an existing donor base
Leading performing arts company Bangarra's Plus1 campaign raised funds to implement a new CRM.
Tell us about your Plus1 fundraising strategy.
To raise funds for the Plus1 matched fundraising campaign we engaged our existing supporters with news of the opportunity to support the funding target. Follow-up communications were delivered through a number of online channels and in Bangarra’s end of year newsletter.
Describe your project and the outcomes you hope to achieve.
Bangarra’s capacity building project is to implement a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, specifically Tessitura.
By implementing Tessitura Bangarra anticipates that over the short and long terms the company will be able to capture, streamline and maximise audience data, conduct effective audience research, communicate more effectively to stakeholders, transact directly with patrons and increase revenue.
Do you feel more confident in your overall development strategy and ability to achieve results?
Our success reaffirmed our approach to development, and in particular project-specific fundraising.
The support we received from our patrons was significant and assured us that we have maintained strong relationships across the community and have acquired a loyal and eager donor base. With Tessitura in place, our relationships and insights into these donors can only grow.
How does your project address challenges or needs within your organisation?
Bangarra has had no CRM system in place and relies purely on an online database to hold basic information, as well as a host of spreadsheets holding important fundraising and ticketing data.
The organisation has no insights into its customer segments and has no single customer view of its audiences. This means that often marketing and fundraising activities are run blindly and are uninformed by analytics.
The team operates manually across departments in multiple excel spreadsheets to capture, store and analyse key stakeholder data. Cross-referencing and coordination between functions is impractical, inefficient and highly vulnerable to error or loss of data.
Ultimately, once Tessitura has been fully implemented it will allow insight-driven analysis, full reporting and automation of many processes. It will benefit both the organization and our audiences.
What are the benefits of Plus1 to your organisation?
Bangarra is currently in the early stages of software implementation and on schedule for Tessitura to be live by November 2014. It is expected that benefits to the organisation will become evident after this time.
In the interim, we have created a cross-company project team, audited our existing data, and undertaken training in the software. These have each brought benefits to the organization, such as effective change management and reduced organizational silos.
Have you increased your knowledge and skills in fundraising and partnerships as a result of Plus1?
The project has allowed Bangarra Dance Theatre to better understand project-specific fundraising and its appeal to our existing donor support base.
Will Plus1 leave a positive legacy in your organisation?
Yes. The Plus1 matched funding program enabled Bangarra to meet a significant infrastructural need, one that will help facilitate the ongoing development and sustainable growth of the organisation.
More specifically, the Tessitura implementation will allow the organization to flourish as improved data-driven marketing and fundraising programs are established, and an effective customer insight program is realized.
